The Innovation Commission for Climate Change, Food Security, and Agriculture joined an event “Unlocking the Power of Science and AI for Development Impact” organized by the World Bank’s Development Impact Department on October 17, 2025 during the World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
The event convened leaders from policy, research, technology, and philanthropy to discuss how science and technology can accelerate learning and amplify impact at scale, transforming the path of development. The event also featured the launch of ImpactAI, a specialized AI research assistant designed to synthesize the highest-quality, scientific knowledge for policy decisions.
Professor Michael Kremer, Chair of the Innovation Commission, joined a panel discussion with Arianna Legovini (Director for Development Impact, World Bank), Bosun Tijani (Minister of Communications and Digital Economy of Nigeria), Amanda Glassman (Executive Advisor to the President, Inter-American Development Bank), Jamie Zimmerman (Deputy Director for Digital Connectivity, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), and Karan Bhatia (Global Head of Government Affairs & Public Policy, Google). Professor Kremer highlighted several innovations identified by the Commission including AI weather forecasts and digital agricultural advisory services.
