The Innovation Commission for Climate Change, Food Security, and Agriculture participated in the event “Accelerating Global Action on Land Restoration and Drought Resilience, from Riyadh to Ulaanbaatar” on September 25, 2025 during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The event was organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, UNCCD, COP16 Presidency) and Mongolia (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, UNCCD, COP17 Presidency).

The event aimed to elevate political and financial momentum on land restoration and drought resilience, following the landmark outcomes of COP16 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in the lead-up to COP17 in Mongolia.

Professor Michael Kremer, Chair of the Innovation Commission participated in a panel discussion on “Innovative Finance for Drought Resilience” at the event, where he highlighted several financial innovations identified by the Commission.
